'SURVIVOR'
Tension Mounts - Who Will Be The Last Viewer?
Bookmakers reported a wave of last-minute
betting yesterday as punters around
the country put money on who would
be the last remaining viewer of ITV's
reality TV show 'Survivor'.
The 6 million viewers who watched
the first episode of the series have now been
whittled down to just 3. They are:
Betty Lownsdale, 76, a pensioner from Leeds.
Keith Ovenden, 46, Head of
the Official Survivor (UK) Fan Club and the
Unofficial Billie Piper Appreciation
Society.
Leanne Battersby, 32, a beautician from Walthamstow.
The fourth remaining viewer, Duncan
Fields, 36, from Bath, dramatically turned
over last week when a cursory glance
at a TV guide reminded him that a
documentary about 'some old ships
or something' was being shown on BBC2.
Betty Lownsdale is the current bookies'
favourite, with many observers
expecting her to be the last to
stop watching. "She is actually in a semi-catatonic
state and is barely aware of what
is going on around her," said her doctor
yesterday. "She's got a good chance."
Leanne Battersby, the second favourite,
almost dropped out of the race two
days ago when she was distracted by a
small bird hopping around her front
garden.
