12" Pepperoni In London
Restaurant Sets World Pizza Longevity Record
A pepperoni pizza sitting in a glass
cabinet in London's Leicester Square has
set a new world longevity record
for a pizza.
The pizza, which has one segment
missing, is believed to have resided in the
cabinet for 850 days, or almost
two and a half years.
It was made in 1999 by a chef at
Dominiko's Cafe, a 24 hour snack bar popular
with tourists and people who are
lost. It is believed the chef has since been
deported and is unaware of his pizza's
legendary status.
The record breaking pizza (bottom)
One slice of the pizza was sold on
the first day it went on display, but it is
otherwise intact and still retains
its original, bright colours thanks to its
protective layer of grease and the
complete absence of any biodegradable
ingredients.
The old record was held by a 9 inch
ham and mushroom which was displayed
in a North London kebab shop for
700 days before being sold.
