Bethlehem Nativity Siege
Awkwardly Reenacted By 7 Year-old Children
The recently ended siege at the Church
of the Nativity in Bethlehem has been
awkwardly reenacted by a group of
schoolchildren at a special morning
assembly in Ramallah.
Parents looked on as children from
the Holy Mountain Primary School donned
false beards and AK-47s and
took part in a clumsily staged gun battle with
mock Israeli troops, which culminated
in a siege at a cardboard Church of the
Nativity.
The minor glitches in the performance
did not seem to affect the audience's
enjoyment, and there was affectionate
laughter when a young girl playing a
suicide bomber missed her cue and
dropped a bundle of pretend Semtex on a
soldier's head.
The performance was brought to a
close when 7 yr-old Akbah Jahal came on
stage dressed as Yasser Arafat and
defeated the Israeli troops with a 'magic
stone', accompanied by the school
choir singing Robbie Williams' 'Angel'.
