Richard Gere Lends Support
To Campaign For More Films Starring Richard Gere
Actor Richard Gere has lent his support
to a campaign to get more films made
starring actor Richard Gere.
Gere, known for his outspoken views
and affiliation with several controversial,
political causes was present at
the launch of the 'Cast Richard' campaign in
Beverly Hills yesterday.

Plea
"For too long, Richard Gere has been
overlooked as an actor, pushed to the back
of our minds, forgotten," Gere said.
"So quickly we forget what Richard Gere
has given to the world: An Officer
and a Gentleman, a global box office smash.
Internal Affairs, a low-key but
highly accomplished work by acclaimed director
Mike Figgis. And other great works
too numerous to mention. Are these
accomplishments to be allowed to
drift from our collective consciences? I would
consider that a crime against art."
It is believed the campaign will
involve full page ads in Hollywood trade papers
and primetime television commercials
all featuring the campaign motto:
'Cast your prejudices aside. Cast
Richard.'
Gere's involvement in the campaign
has encouraged other celebrities to join the
cause, including spiritual leader,
the Dalai Lama: "Although Dr. T and the
Women was derided by many critics,
for me it was a truly enlightening film," the
Dalai told reporters. "It is shameful
that more films are not made featuring
Mr. Gere's attractive features and
great acting talent."
Steve Guttenburg has also voiced
his support: "The world needs more Richard
Gere movies. I truly believe that,"
he said. "If we can just get one Richard Gere
movie made, it will have been worth
it."
