Prince Philip Tour Of
Northern Club Circuit Cancelled After Complaints
Prince Philip's planned stand-up
comedy tour of a number of northern England
working men's clubs has been cancelled
after organisers criticised his act for being
out-dated and offensive.
"Times have moved on, you know,"
said Bert 'Fatty' Fansdale, who is in charge
of bookings at Grimlington Working
Men's Club, Yorkshire. "Nowadays, we
like a little bit of political satire,
you know, and a little bit o' the old post-modern
irony and such like. Jokes about
aborigines throwing spears are just passé, like."
The prince is believed to have offered
to reduce the number of mother-in-law
jokes in his act and incorporate
more observational material, but it was not
enough to persuade the venue owners.
Prince Philip's agent denies his
client's career may be in trouble after this latest
setback: "There will always be a
place for Philip's unique brand of humour," he
said. "He has a huge following in
Germany and South Africa, and he's always in
tremendous demand around panto season.
You'll be hearing a lot more from him,
you can rest assured."
