IRAQ LATEST: Bush Changes
Stance, Insists Iraq Must Now Disclose All Weapons And Porn
In what many commentators have described
as a significant change of strategy,
President George W. Bush has demanded
that Saddam Hussein disclose not
just his weapons of mass destruction
but also his porn collection, stating that
failure to do so will give the United
States no option but to invade Iraq.
--BUSH:
Demand.
"No more denials," Bush told reporters
gathered at the White House. "I am sick
and tired of excuses. We know Saddam
has porn. We know he has used porn in
the past. And we know he is hiding
his porn somewhere. The world is not safe,
when some of the world's worst porn
is in the hands of one the world's worst
leaders."
Secretary of State Colin Powell then
listed the porn which Iraq is thought to
possess, including:
Suspicions about Iraq's porn
arsenal were raised last year when an Iraqi agent
was detained by Special Branch officers
in the UK after trying to obtain an
illegal copy of 'Ben Dover's Doin
It Down Under' from a dealer in London.
--PORN:
The full extent of Saddam's arsenal is not known.
Bush announced that he will now ask
the United Nations to pass a new
resolution giving Hans Blix and
his team of inspectors the power to search for
and, if necessary, confiscate all
of Saddam's porn.
Iraq's foreign minister has dismissed
the move, claiming Iraq has had no porn
since the early 1990s.
British Prime Minister Tony Blair
immediately expressed his support for the
new initiative, telling reporters:
"Pornography is a scourge on our lives and the
lives of all decent, honest people.
Saddam must disclose all of his porn or face
the consequences."
But anti-war campaigners have derided
Bush's latest statement. British
journalist John Pilger said: "How
can he start objecting to Saddam possessing
porn? The US sold most of it to
him in the first place."
Ben Dover was unavailable for comment.
