Actress
Minnie Driver Not Yet A Gay Icon Confirms International Gay Council At
Annual Summit
The International Gay Council has
confirmed that actress Minnie Driver is not
yet a gay icon, ending months of
speculation.
"After consideration, the Council
believes the time is not yet right for Minnie
Driver to assume the mantle of Gay
Icon," said Secretary General Felix Lane,
"but I stress that the situation
is under constant review."
The decision has surprised some industry
insiders: "I thought she would get it
this year," said one.
Gay
Council: 'Driver is not ready.'
The summit was dominated by the ongoing
conflict in Afghanistan and the
Council passed a new resolution
pledging to deploy a multinational force
of gays to the war-torn country
"as soon as is practically possible." The
news was greeted positively by the
Afghan representative, who has long
called for more gays to be sent
to the country, where there is a desperate
shortage.
The High Commission For Gay Fashion
also reaffirmed it's long-standing
policy on tight, white t-shirts
worn with turned up jeans: "This look is still
very much in and will continue to
be so for the foreseeable future," said the
Secretary General.
